Love those feather patterns. I like how you caught the curve in the pattern along the neck and the contrast between the soft feathers at the eyes and the sharper definition at the ‘brows’.
It was taken just north of the intersection of Rts 1 and 9. The owl isn’t well. It nearly flew into the side of a log truck, landed in the snow and managed to fly up onto this branch. I took a few pics with 48x zoom and left.
Robin, I am soooooooo envious!!! I would love so much to get a picture of an owl, but can’t seem to see any these days!!! They’re such a neat looking bird.
The owls are starving. We didn’t have a big meadow vole crop this winter. Canada’s voles crashed so their starving owls moved down here. There are owls here this winter that most of us have never seen in Maine.
How beautiful. My husband was startled one night last winter by one just hanging out in the middle of the street in Rockland. He thought it was a crumpled newspaper at first!

Beautiful, did you take that at your house?

Oh, and BTW — HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!
What beautiful feathering. You don’t think he was well? What ails owls these days other than all the chemicals we are spraying?
Wonderful photo!
